Big things come in small packages

Bulletin for April

It is no secret that I’m not exactly a lover of Twitter. Generally speaking, not a lot that is worthwhile can be said in less than 140 characters. Of course there are exceptions. The individual proverbs say a tremendous amount in small scope – although they cannot be taken in isolation if we are to use them correctly. And then there are many maxims and one liner’s which are thought provoking, challenging, and funny. For this week’s bulletin I have included ten “twittings” ancient and modern to stir up the grey matter.

1. The virtue of a man ought to be measured, not by his extraordinary assertions, but by his everyday conduct – Blaise Pascal

2. Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us – C.S. Spurgeon

3. The grace and goodness and glory of God turns, “What must I do?” into, “What may I do?” – Jeremy Walker

4. Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen – Winston Churchill

5. To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing – Martin Luther

6. I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else – C.S. Lewis

7. I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots – Albert Einstein

8. Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us – John Stott

9. In some awful, strange, paradoxical way, atheists tend to take religion more seriously than the practitioners. — Jonathon Miller

10. Just do the best you can, and, if possible, face death with a smile – William Kauffman
